The Little Things | Pluto, the Celestial Body

RIYA

Most people interested in astrology know that Pluto is the modern ruler of Scorpio. Arguments about Pluto's planetary status aside, Pluto is a celestial body that is quite small. According to the Cool Cosmos at Caltech, the Pluto is only 1/6 the size of Earth! Yet, this tiny body has been the cause of much commotion since it's discovery in February of 1930.  How fitting that we become aware of something so responsible for change during a time in history and a sign that was all about breaking down old restrictive structures and moving the Earth into higher Consciousness?

It wasn't one sweeping event that implemented change: there were many developments and much discomfort, especially for those who clung to the "Old Guard" way of doing things. Through discipline, patience, and unwavering loyalty to Truth, our world emerged a better place in many ways (and we still have work to do!). However, those changes did not come without a fight -- and Mars is the ancient ruler of Scorpio. The fights that followed stung many because it called the motivations of people into question. This is a favorite Scorpio past time.

Fighting and Negativity

Since we are talking about things that make people uncomfortable, today I am going to focus on the so-called "negative" energies of Scorpio, because so much is made of the "negativity" that 8th house, Plutonian and Scorpionic energies bring.

Firstly, let's look at the word negative. At first glance, it seems, well, negative -- and it is, in the way that we use it on a daily basis. We exhort well-meaning missives such as, "Stop being so negative!" and "Don't engage in negativity".

But what if we also looked at the positive sides of being negative? Bear with me, here.

In order to be, we have to negate that which we are not.

This simple understanding can have profound effects if we allow it. Scorpio is the sign of transformation and making way for new things/circumstances/new lives and so on. Represented by the snake, the eagle, and the Phoenix, the three levels of Scorpio are positively represented by Kundalini, interaction with your Higher Power, and the ability to transform one's life at will. If proper measures are not taken, one can manipulate situations for their own gain, become overly judgmental, or become so cynical as to think any sort of self-realization is futile.

How can we use this astrological energy to assist us in our Soul's evolution?

First, we have to understand that we are Be-ings in the first place. We have to be receptive to the fact that we exist to interface with this world. This is how Scorpio became to be known as a sensual sign. Be mindful this month of the juxtaposition of experiences you will have with regard to your environment, work, family and those closest to you. Allow yourself to catalog, journal or otherwise, your emotions about your experiences without any judgment.

Then take some time to reflect on the experiences you did not like. Give your Self permission to release these experiences. By releasing these experiences with Love, we can make room for that which brings us more contentment. This will be your first step in negation. Afterward, allow your Self permission to revel in whatever events or sensations you enjoyed. These are the little things that will bring you closer to higher Soul happiness. Both sets of experiences help direct your Soul toward its best. This exercise is something you will be doing throughout your life, as Scorpio is fixed sign and is stubborn about its domain!

In time, you find more and more space for the things/places/people you love while minimizing experiences that are depleting.

If you have Sun in Scorpio, you habitually embody awareness in your day to day life and effortlessly cause others to do the same. If you have weaker Neptune contacts to your natal, it should be easy for you to "separate the wheat from the chaff", so to speak.

With the Moon in Scorpio, you can intuit how others feel and why. Try not to feel fake superiority because others may grapple with their emotions in the way you don't. There is so much that you stuff down into the recesses of your psyche.

Mercury in Scorpio, probing others is a good thing if you want to know them deeply and kindly. However, don't forget to logically pick yourself, your thoughts and your arguments apart in the same way.

With Mars in Scorpio, allowing negation in your life should be easy for you, because like Sun, you do it anyway. Just make sure you are direct and don't hem and haw.

Venus in Scorpio, like what you like and love what you love, but understand that just because it pleases you doesn't mean it's good for you. You have the ability to negate those relationships that don't serve -- but will you?

Jupiter in Scorpio amplifies everything to the max, and yet you still have faith that all will be alright. Figure out what "alright" means for you.

Next week, we will talk about Scorpionic positivity!
